Appearance
Choi is a lanky young man with red hair in a curtain hairstyle that is parted over the left side of his right eye. He also has a very amicable smile and tends to wear striped business suits. When using his powers, his eyes glow bright magenta. On raids, he wore a suit of goldish-brown and white suit with a flowing red cape and a set of eight rings.
Personality
Choi is a sly and friendly individual who does not easily falter under pressure and is quick to catch on to things. He is also a chain smoker and can almost always be found outside smoking a cigarette.
Abilities
Choi is the strongest mage-type hunter in Korea and is implied to rival Baek Yoonho in strength. However, despite his status, he is significantly weaker than his lieutenant, Cha Hae-In, and quite possibly one of the weakest S-Ranks in the world.
Fire Magic: Choi is the best fire user in Korea and is rumored to be able to destroy a tall building with a single spell. His flames are powerful enough to wipe out entire hordes of ants and incinerate a entire group of earth giants in a matter of seconds. He is also able to use his fire magic for more practical purposes, as shown when he conjured flames under his feet to safely lower himself from high up and then later fired off numerous small fireballs at an extremely fast pace so that he could figure out the right way to go inside the Jeju Island Dungeon.[1] He is capable of regulating the temperature and volume of his flames to conserve mana or test durability of opponents. However, he is not capable of rendering his teammates fireproof.
Enhanced Durability: Choi possesses great physical durability despite being a mage archetype, as displayed by how he was able to remain conscious and keep moving at a relatively S-Rank pace even after the Ant King slashed him across the chest and grievously injured him.
Enhanced Speed: Choi can move at great speeds, as displayed by how he was able to narrowly dodge the Statue of God's heat vision.
Mana Pool: Choi has a massive mana pool, surpassing majority of characters, displayed in his ability to maintain extensive firepower throughout the entirety of the Jeju Island Raid. It is suggested, out of Mage and Healer-type hunters, only Jinwoo with the Black Heart, the S-Rank healer Min Byung-Gyu, and Nation Level Hunters such as Christopher Reed surpass his mana pool.
Flame Spear: Choi creates several spears of fire and launches them as his enemies.[2]
Fire Resistance: As a wielder of fire magic, Choi appears to be unaffected by high temperatures and cannot be injured by his own flames.
Flame Prison: Choi is able to create a large net of flames for both offensive and defensive purposes. According to himself, it is strong enough to restrain B-Rank magic beasts. It is unclear whether the size of the prison affects its strength.
Flame Dragon: Choi is able to mold a swirling mass of fire into a small dragon, which he can then use to burn any enemy nearby to cinders.[3]
Trivia
In the Japanese version of the anime, Choi's name is changed to Shin Mogami (最上真).
Choi Jong-In is first mentioned in the very first chapter of the Solo Leveling webtoon during a conversation between Kim Sangshik and Park Beom-Shik.[4]
